Should you go?
One of Florida's newest state parks (acquired in 2017), Gilchrist Blue is a startlingly clear main spring pool with a short run to the Santa Fe River. It has become the classic 'plan B' for Ichetucknee overflow — which undersells how good it is on its own.
The shallow, sandy-bottomed pool makes it one of the best springs for families with small kids, and the spring run snorkel toward the river is short but genuinely beautiful.
Visiting
Standard state park entry at $6 per vehicle, 8am to sunset. The park also hits capacity on summer weekends — it is smaller than Ichetucknee — so the same arrive-early rule applies. A small campground takes reservations through Florida State Parks.
Local tips
Morning light on the main pool is the photo. If both this and Ichetucknee are full, Ginnie Springs (10 minutes) takes day guests at private-park rates.
